Weird Thing in my Puffer's Tank

Post by pufferjw »

Yesterday, I noticed a weird dust-like substance in my Congo puffer's tank. I cleaned about half of it out, and decided to let the rest settle at the bottom again before I took care of it so it would be easier. But when I came back tonight, there was even more in the tank than before. I'm positive that there is no leftover food in the tank. Could someone tell me what it is and how to get rid of it?

It looks like flocculation, fine particulates clumping together.

you have to find the origin of the stuff in order to find the solution to the problem
it's coming from somewhere
either it's growing (like algae), of it's coming from something else, or from Mars.........
your picture is hard to read, not clear
if I knew more about your filter, what kind? media? how often maintained? something dead in it? something deteriorating in it?
let's have some info!

I looked all over the tank and in my filter and I can't find anything that would cause the particles. The filter is a Marineland Penguin Power Filter 20-30 Gallon. I replace the filter cartridge every 3-4 weeks.

I have no idea, but so far I've just been cleaning it out during water changes and it's been fine. Luckily, it doesn't seem to have any negative effects on my puffer. However, my parents are getting me a new aquarium for Christmas, so I'll just move my puffer there and hopefully the stuff won't reappear in the new tank.
