Mine has not 'puffed' yet. Scruffy is pretty good at 'playing rock' because he blends in to the gravel so well. I do have to look for him sometimes, but he is right there in the open. I did accidentally overfed once and he sat for days like a lump. So I learned from it and dont feed as heavy or as often and he seems a bit more active. If he does decide to be a cave dweller he has got two nice spots available. Hopefully Scruffy stays active...Stratters wrote:He'll hide and become more lurkerish as he gets older; I noticed a behaviour change in Pig when he reached about 3.5", he started to practice puffing (ludicrous), became more slothful, and started to spend more time 'hidden'. Sadly, for Pig, 'hidden' seems to involve lying under a plant, pretending to be a rock. He's not very convincing tbh.

Caves/refuges can be just about any water-safe material - stones, slate slabs, unglazed pottery or fragments thereof, etc. If it is water safe and you can keep it from collapsing on the fish, it can be used.

I think you're probably right; he always looks horrified when he's caught puffing, deflates immediately, and goes and sulks in the Pig Cavehadla wrote:maybe he thinks that if he can't see anyone, no one can see him!Stratters wrote:Sadly, for Pig, 'hidden' seems to involve lying under a plant, pretending to be a rock. My father had a 400gallon tank with a Dogface Puffer. You could walk to the glass and if he knew you he would puff. He would also puff around dinner time to get some food.
