Thats what they say, but I still see the red light on when I do water changes. It hasn't ever exploded though! The glass they use looks much thicker then other heaters, so maybe that helps too =P.Pufferpunk wrote:That's why I only buy Jager heaters. They have an auto switch off, when the water level is down.

Re: Daft things you have done
I find more dog hairs on the furniture and rugs than in the tanks. Try training basset hounds not to drink out of fish tanks. Basset slime is far worse than most other fish tank slime.

Once stuck my head in a plastic bag and put it in a fish tank, nearly lost an eye/ suffocated. Don't try this at home kids
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: Daft things you have done
There are better way to see underwater, such as toy periscopes. Those ms-leading reflections we see from outside the tank have been well known for generations. A well-know public aquarium, the Monaco Aquarium, was built long ago to take advantage of then to avoid the "glass box" images we see with simple rectangular tanks. Monaco-style tanks are often used in public displays to avoid the peculiar reflections of rectangular tanks. But every generation of hobbyists has to learn all over again that those refections we see are not, repeat not, seen by the fish. Many still refuse to admit that the fish does not see what we see from outside the tank.
Do note that this is not the same as the often ms-labeled Jaubert-style tanks, which is plenum-based. Jaubert-style or plenum-based tanks are frequently called Monaco-style as well, as the plenum technique was tested and popularized through the Monaco Aquarium. A true Monaco-style aquarium has 5 (or more) sides with the two sides adjacent to the front (main viewing glass) at precise angles to the front to avoid the artificial reflections we see from the front of simple rectangular tanks.

Re: Daft things you have done
Not a daft thing I've done, but I saw Piggy puff up this morning. He was perfectly happy, just puffed himself up then spat out some tough bits of prawn shell as he deflated. I guess he was simply getting rid if some bits that were too tough to digest.
He looked ridiculous.

Lol Bertie, pity you didn't tape the head in bag experiment, this would have been a nice YouTube video...although not children-safe...
Enjoyed the old threads...quite funny also that some apologized for not being scientific while they were practising scientific method by the book: best way to check something is an experiment, it trumps theory and common knowledge/belief anyday...so what you (and other experimentalists) did is more pure science than all the time spent reading school books...just be careful when doing it lol

I have been severely reprimanded by both daughters and my ex husband (who bought Piggy for me as a gift when Spuddy died). I am not allowed near Piggy without my phone in hand. They are all gutted to have missed it.
