Where do I get my shell fish foods for GSPs
Hello,
I have 2 juvenile GSPs who are about 1.5 in. big now.
I'm contemplating on whether I should start feeding them clams and larger crustaceans and would it be best to buy them frozen or live ones from the supermarket? I'd like to make sure that the foods are 'clean' and free of harmful things prior to feeding them.
I am currently feeding them bloodworms, ghost shrimp, sun dried gammarus, and snails.

Thanks,
Can I get a breakdown of the age/size GSP corresponding with the type of foods they can eat?
E.g. 1.5 in.- ghost shrimp, bloodworms, snails, etc

They can eat most things at any size. For example anything that may be too hard/ big should be broken into meal sized portions prior to feeding, also if its too hard the shell can be bashed to make it easier for the fish and he will scrape his teeth on the shell getting to the meat. Ghost shrimp are not crunch foods, they only have a soft shell. For small gsp lots of snails would keep their teeth in check
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Thank you,
What is the most efficient way to breed snails? Mine keep dying in my 12 g tank, I think it might be due to the sand substrate that I have.

Okay I will try that.
Also, this might sound like a stupid question but, for the frozen foods (mussels, crabs, etc), should they be raw or cooked?

I'd like to see what others say to the crab, because you can only buy frozen crab that is cooked. Otherwise you have to buy live crab. My understanding is you always want to feed raw food, never cooked, but perhaps with crab there is an exception?

I would say if the only crab U can get are cooked, skip it then. Look for other alternatives. Lobsters, crayfish maybe, all raw.

I'm still curious if others are feeding crab. My husband who was in the restaurant biz says there is no way to buy uncooked crab, unless you buy it live. All crab is cooked. I've read people feeding crab, so I'm curious, as I bought mine a couple legs, and have fed some meat to him once. He did love it!

Re: Where do I get my shell fish foods for GSPs
I fed my GSP some live microcrabs occasionally. Occasionally the local grocery store will have crabs that are right next to the raw crayfish but I've never asked if they were cooked or not because they are large enough to feed a GSP for a year
