Animals do understand their environment, they know exactly what happens but they see it with their very particular & incomprehensible way, not in the way of we perceive...

I think it is possible that animals do. Even puffers. This reminds me of a video I remember seeing a while back of a dog rescuing another dog after it was hit by a car. It would watch for traffic as it dragged the injured dog off the road.

Humans observe the actions of other humans and quite frequently grossly misinterpret those actions, based on their own feeling and desires. How infinitely more difficult it is to interpret the actions of other animal species in any meaningful way.
