They are not going to die.. not soon at least.. But they will not live long as it not the optimal condition for them. LFS dun care or dun know. Here, believe it or not.. most of my LFS have never heard of brackish water.. only "fresh water with some salt"..

it requires some testing equipment or a full SW tank.

1 way is got get marine salt and slowly increase the salt level and the other is set up and cycle a marine tank and have the puffer adjust to marine conditions.

The first way is cheap a little at a time but that adds up to $$$, the second way is to spend that $$$ all at once which is actually cheaper.

depends on the age and stress of the fish. At the LFS, because they are not in the best of conditions, they may not be showing their full colors.

I think there are only 3 kinds that get mixed up in that group: GSPs (Green spotted), Ceylons and Giant Spotted Pufffers. Sometimes as babies the F8s will get misnamed also.

I'm not sure. Honestly though, if you can't keep it in the right conditions then you shouldn't get one. I know you want to help one out but if they sell well the the store may keep getting fish like that in and that wouldn't be good.

I know, it's tough :( You want to make a difference to one but another one will just take it's place.
