What happens to fish that try to eat puffers: This

Other than the dumb text about the spines being poisoned, a really good photo spread. The fish that tried to eat the puffer was BIG, and the puffer not very big considering adult porc sizes. To judge by the bigger fishes body being missing, I'd guess locals have some nice fillets if it was found fresh, or some good chum if it was past prime when found.

Self-defense semi-fail!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

The great thing about a mechanism prey can use to kill a predator is that it's evolutionarily successful even in cases like this... sure that puffer may be dead, but it has saved who knows how many others puffers that might have been eaten by that predator in it's long life. It's actually beneficial for all potential prey fish, not just puffers.

As long as it does not result in removal of too many predators, causing an overpopulation and starvation event at their level of the food chain, fish that can do this improve the biodiversity of their environments by keeping the larger piscavores from dominating.

It really is. Giant frog eyes along with a gaping mouth full of peglike teeth, not quite pointy enough to kill fast.

Most of those pictures were a bit disturbing. The first one made up for it, though. :D
