Starting a new tank. What can I put in it?

Post by DerpyFish »

Hi. I have started setting up a twenty gallon high tank. What species of puffer would be happy in it?

Look over our puffer profiles in the Pufferpedia, under the Learn tab above.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Have been looking at f8s, red eyes and dwarfs. Am I missing any other species that would fit in this tank? Would a 20 high be cramped for a single f8? How are they personality wise? Or would it be fishality? I liked the way the gsp would come to the front of the tank and be curious... Until the poor thing got sick. :(
What kind of filter will I need? Will an aquaclear 30 work while the fish is small?
Thanks.

A single F8 would be fine in there. They live longer as singletons.

A Figure 8 will also come to the front when it sees you :D

That filter would probably do alright to get rid of the waste from the puff but I didn't think that my Hob type filter turned over the water sufficiently and so let the algae grow quicker.

:( It got lost in the upgrade. I was quite proud of that source.

A Figure 8 will also come to the front of the tank when he/she spots you.

When seeking amfilter look for one that does around 10x the volume of the tank per hour. This turnover rate will help limit blue green algae and will help maintain a good turnover rate even after the media has accumulated some waste.
