That is the most grotesquely obese puffer I think that I have ever seen. The poor fish is doomed to sort life. NIMFT, not ever!

Well I have heard of people putting vodka in their tank to reduce nitrAtes so maybe his sickness will just be a hangover from drinking too many screwdriver cocktails.Squaffy wrote: What's the betting odds of a thread appearing in the hospital section 'My Mbu is sick after tipping OJ in its tank'

Alcohol was used as fuel for some tube denitrators, but I have never heard of pouring it into an open tank. Definitely NIMFT!
But then, I would not use OJ either.

Yes, lots of reef-keepers use vodka, vinegar, sugar & my favorite, vitamin C, to reduce nitrate/phosphate in their reef tanks, which require these to be as close to 0 as possible.

Re: orange juice ad has mbu in it
Not to derail this thread too much, but I've always wondered if the vodka really lowers nitrAtes or if it just fools the test kit to show a lower reading.

Re: orange juice ad has mbu in it
Based off of this guide: http://www.melevsreef.com/vodka_dosing.html
This is only used on my 55g FOWLR tank.
Water where I am at (rural water supply) averages 40-60 ppm nitrate. (worst in the summer)
