I played Quake and Quake II a lot as a little kid at my neighbours house. Tried it again recently but I can't play it anymore, it scares me
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: What happened to Games?
All games now are about war. :/ War scares me. I like alien games! Halo's were so hard! I never been one... hehe
Ghost Recon oh ya! Never beat that game either... but I played it ALL the time.
I have a Nintendo 64 and I can't beat Yoshi's Story!!! It's so fun though...
I miss good games.

I love all the new war games like MW3, MW2, COD, all the Ghost Recons, and the HALO'S but Halo Reach would have to be my far fav. There was some old school games I like but cant remember that far back..lol.

OH wait, we're talking about old games?? Ohm, I thought the discussion was on games from maybe 5 years ago at most... hehe. Then I'd say things are going well and advancing Classics are good though. I love my Pokemon Emerald ver.!
Habla: hehe that's funny. I usually am a perfectionalist when it comes to enemies, not fruits! I wanna try!

you must be young if you consider pokemon "emerald" a classic. I've never even heard of that and I'm not old..Lil' Swimz$ wrote:OH wait, we're talking about old games?? Re: What happened to Games?
The original doom was ace. Some games are still tricky just not many. I remember my first computer: comodore vic20 I think it was called lol
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
Re: What happened to Games?
Yup thats what i'm talking about thinking games from 3-5 years ago are classics. I'm talking Contra, original mortal combat, street fighter, Jaws (NES), and yes some of the other like Starfox. But people who say Call Of Duty or Halo are classics are the "Kiddies" and yea they are fun for maybe a 5 year old with no skill (just saying) but they take little to no skill to play and beat the game.
Now online play is totally different. You can tell when the kids are on because all they do is run their mouth and not play or work together with the team in team games. Or they get "butthurt" and just screw their team over because they are mad. Just sad really, games are meant to be a challenge and fun at the same time. And I miss those days. Not a bunch of cry babies that play the majority of games today.

Re: What happened to Games?
Thats pretty much why I don't mess with online games anymore. After 20 minutes playing with a bunch of 12 year olds running around screaming 'pwn' and 'n00b' I start to feel like I'm at a daycare.
I still say the BEST classic FPS game was a little known title called Marathon for the PowerMac, which was created by Bungie software. In fact, a lot of their queues for the Halo series came from Marathon. I do believe it was also the first FPS where you could look up and down. And, a lot of people out there still play it.

Re: What happened to Games?
I feel that D&D had the same problem. They made version 3-4 MUCH easier. I suppose as time goes on, everything changes to form to what people want/need. Certain things can be challenge still, if you make them that way, though. If you're finding something too easy, maybe go through and try to get every single trophy/achievement.

LOL! I hear ya. I was listening to it on MW3 earlier. But all the crying was coming from what sounded more like 20 yr olds...lol Everytime I play MW3, most of the crying is from the teens and early 20 yr olds. A bunch of big kids. I laugh and enjoy my 12 death and 4 kills..lol Im not in it to compete, im in it to have fun.

I was one of the test programmers for the original Doom game. OMG there were levels that were not introduced because they were too complicated and you only had 1 choice of exit. If you didn't get it perfectly you'd be there forever trying to figure it out. We dropped some of those simply because we felt that the people wanted the action and not to solve the puzzles. Today, yea way too easy. The eye candy is excellent, the game play and interaction is awesome, but the longevity isn't there. The original Halo took me about a month to finish. Halo 3 was an afternoon.
Back in the day when the 64 bit OS came out, there was a theory of the self perpetuating game. With each level finished it would randomly create a new map and enemies based on your proficiency in the previous map. The closest that came to this, I believe, was the Final Fantasy series but even that was limited (although a HUGE map). Japan came out with the first truly AI game, but it was a massive flop because it would take weeks just to train the unit to accept commands (used voice recognition software).
There weren't too many older games I disliked. There were a lot I wasn't very good at. Now, I have lost interest simply because they are so short lived. They are fun mind you, but once you beat it in a few days, the replay factor is kind of lost.
Ohhh speaking of new stuff.... have any of you seen this emerging company out of Australia? :
Expecting some amazing stuff to explode onto the market soon
