 I wonder of they've got a branch in England!
My girlfriend's always complaining that I spend too much time on tank maintenance, this could be the perfect solution :D

It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Hey I'm only hairy from the neck up. I don't think that's what bear lovers are after.

If I remember wasn't the line right before that something like "First, you've got to have no talent. But you need more than no talent, you need a gimmick."

My understanding after getting the homosexual-friendly tour of San Diego and surrounding regions is that with bears, it isn't necessarily hairy all over, so much as a subculture where classical manly appearance (which includes beards, body hair, etc) is considered most appealing, running counter to the more modern and quite different ideals seen in mainstream gay culture. To be clear, you can't just consider it a dichotomy, what's considered attractive in queer circles varies as much as it does in any other group you more or less randomly decide to categorize based on one arbitrarily chosen personality characteristic.

The reason I know about this is because a close friend of mine from high school was living In San Diego (the reason for my visit actually) and as a lesbian she knew some of the best gay friendly locations, which included Brian's diner, where the wait staff are all bears. The food and drinks were actually really good at all the gay spots we hit. I'm cool with gay folks, but I won't go to a gay bar or eatery unless I'm with a group that's mostly queer because I prefer not to be an agent of heterogentrification in queer spaces.

I used to date a pretty hairy, bearded hetero fellow who was a cross-dresser.

Yea, the community has so many combinations and such broad strokes, if you do a really thorough inventory of what is considered "queer" you're almost certain to hit on something you or at least one of your friends likes that makes the list.
