Auriglobus silus

Date: 18/06/08
Owner: PufferPedia Admin
Size: 4 items

Common Name: Golden Puffer/ Elongated Golden Puffer

Family: Tetraodontidae

Distribution: Malaysia: Sarawak & Borneo. From Rajang and Balleh Rivers and their tributaries.

Water Parameters: Temp: 24.4-27.8C (76 - 82F); pH:6.0 - 7.8

Personality/Temperament: Aggressive- Only with fast-moving fish

Activity: Very curious and active

Max. Size: 3 inches (7.62cm)

Estimated Lifespan: At least seven years

Sexual Dimorphism: Unknown. Cannot tell genders apart by eye.

Diet: Live/frozen foods (not fish), snails, frozen shrimp, bloodworms- live or frozen, ghost shrimp (gut-loaded), and other molluscs and crustaceans. These puffers must be fed a daily diet of snails to prevent beak overgrowth.

Care: Pufferfish are extremly sensitive to nitrites and ammonia and should only be introduced into a fully cycled aquarium. Due to their messy eating habits, extra filtration is recommended.

Breeding: We have not found any record of this Auriglobus Silus having bred in captivity. Maybe yours will be the first?

Minimum Tank Size: 20 US gallons (76 liters)

Other Notes: It is difficult to tell the "Silus" and "Modestus" species apart. Adult Modestus are slightly larger than the Silus, with a darker green metallic color, while adult Silus are a shining golden yellow.
