Re: Food Variety for Puffers

Thanks for reminding me about the library, I hadn't thought of that.

Yes, I know that GSP's are not freshwater, and yes, they are in their own tank, but the Dwarfs and the SAP's are in the same tank, and they are doing just fine.

I will try to get some of the foods mentioned in the article.

Food Variety for Puffers

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can suggest some other foods that I can feed my freshwater Puffers. I have Dwarf Puffers, South American Puffers and a Green Spotted Puffer. Right now I am feeding them mostly bloodworms, which they absolutely love. I've tried offering them king prawn (shrimp), but they...

Re: Puffers and CO2

Wow edmlfc1! What a tank!! That is very pretty. May I ask how old that is? I mean, how long ago did you plant that tank? Can I also ask what your substrate is made up of? And when you use your plant tabs, do you put a tablet under each and every plant? I will try to take a photo of my Puffer tank. I...

Re: Puffers and CO2

Hey, I appreciate any information that I can get. The kit I ordered is from Sera, and aside from the CO2 diffuser, it also came with a bottle of liquid plant food/fertiliser, and 2 different plant food tablets. I'm going to try the diffuser in my Dojo (weather loach) tank and see what happens with t...

Re: Puffers and CO2

Well obviously my main concern is the health of my fish, and I've decided that I will go ahead and put the CO2 diffuser in my other tank, not the Puffer tank. I already have the kit, so I'm going to give it a try. The problem with the stuff you are suggesting I use is that I don't think it's availab...

Re: Puffers and CO2

Good point there, never thought about that. They are 36" - 30-watt bulbs. If they aren't strong enough, I'm not going to worry about it, the plants are growing nicely in the tank with 20-watt bulbs, so I'm sure to be able to do something with 30-watt bulbs, and if not, then I will do the best I...

Re: Puffers and CO2

What you've said makes sense, I will start turning the airstones off during the day. The tanks where I have the most plants are both 30-gallon tanks. Right now, the Puffer tank that has the most plants has two lights, one is AquaGlo, which is for plants and fish, and the other is SunGlo and I think ...

Re: Puffers and CO2

Thanks Myaj, I appreciate your help on that. If I put an airstone in that tank, should I only run it at night? I have an airstone in my 2 other tanks (but they don't have Puffers in them), and I let them run 24/7. I did read that the fish really only need the extra air at night, when the plants are ...

Re: Puffers and CO2

The tank I'm thinking about using the CO2 in is about 40 gallons, but I don't think this is the type that you add yeast to, it's just tablets that you drop into the diffuser. The problem with the stuff you suggested is that I am guessing they don't have it over here in England, although maybe someth...

Re: Dwarf Puffer Info

I just wanted to add that initially I started out with 1 Dwarf puffer, then I thought it should have a mate, so I got another, but it turned out to be a male, so I had to get yet another. When I first got them I thought they would hurt each other because they were really nippy and just seemed a bit ...

Puffers and CO2

Hi, the tank I have my puffers in also happens to have alot of plants in it, and I've recently been reading how much CO2 helps aquarium plants and so I've bought myself a small kit. It's not the kind with the CO2 cylinder, this is the kind where you place the CO2 tablet in the diffuser. But what I'm...

Foul Dwarf Puffer Tank

Hi, I've had my 4 Dwarf Puffers in a tank in our tv room, for about 2 months now. The tank had previously had Rasboras and a African Clawed Frog in it, but I moved them out when I decided I wanted to start keeping Puffers (it all started with those little Dwarf ones). I'd never had any problems with...

Re: SAP's and New Tank

Thanks Matt, if you were me, when would you add the two SAP's to this new tank? I don't want to wait too long, but I don't want to add them before the tank is ready either. What do you think about those products that say you can add fish sooner if you use them? Do they work? I'm not a very patient p...

Re: SAP's and New Tank

Hi, right now my SAP's are in my big community tank. The only problem is that my big tank doesn't have gravel, it has sand on the bottom, I wanted to try that as opposed to gravel because I heard it was better for my Corydoras's. But however, the gravel that's in the "new" tank isn't new g...

Re: SAP's and New Tank

Okay, but what do I do during that 3-4 weeks? Am I putting ANY fish at all in the tank? I am leaving it running all day and every day? How does beneficial bacteria get built up if there isn't any fish in the tank? And while I'm at it, what is the best temperature for the SAP's? Right now they are in...
