Re: Trying to save a very sick puffer! HELP!!!
At >2", I'd get them in at least 20g ea, asap & >3", 30g ea. If you don't want to get into buying multible tanks, than go for the largest they'll need as adults.

Re: Substrate Question
Corey, You beat me to it & I totally agree. LS in a bag is just like "live" bacteria in a bottle. Without ammonia to feed the bacteria, it is dead sand in a bag.

Re: mbu puffer??
You are going to have to get those IP meds inside your fish. FW fish do not drink water, so putting them in the water won't help. Do not use any meds to treat the ich. Good articles on treating both, in our library.

Re: Umbrella has taken a step into Saltwater...
Forget the Manderins--you need a well-established tank & a refugium, as they mostly only eat live pods.

Re: Trying to save a very sick puffer! HELP!!!
If this puffer was living with the other 3 & had IPs ( all came from Walmart), I'd still treat the 3 for that. I hope they'll soon have a large home to swim in!

Congrats on having an easy go of it! Did you stir the water with the CO in it? I need to update that article.

That's definately a mbu. You can treat him in his main tank.

I'd not make a regular habbit of feeding veggies to your puffer. Stick with crunchy, meaty foods.

Re: Overgrown beak
It is not necessary to raise him as high as SW but high-end BW is highly recommended. The reason we do say SW is you can change over to much more efficient ways of filtering--live rock/sand & protein skimmer, reducing the amounts of water changes, saving $$$ on $alt.

Re: Help! my puffer is dying :(
Your puffer has had a bad start & usually this doesn't end well. I caution folks here over & over about "rescuing" puffers from Walmart. You should not support a store that neglects their fish in the 1st place. 2nd, you should choose a happy, healthy, nicely rounded puffer, that gr...

Re: mbu puffer??
Have you offered him anything live? He's a wild-caught fish & that's what he's used to. I don't know about mbus but my fahaka went on a 2-week food strike after I moved him into a new tank. Earthworms eventually got him out of that.
