Has anyone ever tried zebra mussels for puffer food before? I live right on the water, and i can easily pluck hundreds of these in a matter of minutes. I'm not worried about parasites as i would QT for months, or freeze them, but what about the sharp edges? The lakes in my area are reasonably clean...

just a quick brush in water should be good to get debris off. Then you can add a touch of dechlor to the tank if you want.

but if one is not prepping the wood properly, one will not get the desired results. For myself I boil it, drain it, boil it again, and keep doing that until I can see the bottom of the pot.
