Re: PRIME
I am also interested in this discussion. My puffer will be living with me in my new apartment, and it will be my first time using h2o conditioner. As experienced as I am (to some degree a professional aquarist ) it is embarassing to admit that I have no idea how to use a water conditioner. I plan on...

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
Any sand deeper than 1", must be stirred thoroughly, weekly. As a barebottom guy, when I do have sand, it gets vacuumed very thouroughly. Will PFS (pool filter sand) work? Its a little coarser so that you can clean it with a vac. When I do use play sand I always completely mix up the tank so t...

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
As long as we are back onto that subject...will play sand do fine?
How deep should it be?
Im really not a fan of the deep sandbed thing as it traps so much waste, and unlike gravel you cant vacuum it.

Re: Where to buy snails?
Is there anything wrong with starting a colony from "wild" snails? QT'ing is obvious. That being said there are different fish parasites that use snails as an intermediate host. Yellow grub for example. However even if your fish got yellow grub it shouldnt kill the fish and should go away ...

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
We will see, the girl friend really has her heart set on a puffer, and I have always wanted to have one as well.

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
Its 24" tall. I like the added depth for them in this situation...I still realize however its cutting it close, but this tank should make the minimum I feel. Got some snails the other day - just threw them in an old planted tank. Still not sure if Im going to go the puffer route, but that was a...

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
Strange. I used to grow the "red root floaters" with a lot of sucess and was selling lots of them over on the planted tank forum.
We will see, I would like some floaters.
The tank Im getting now it looks like is 48"x30"x24" - 150g which should be okay for a fahaka I think.

Re: New Fahaka Owner - Advice Wanted
If you try for growing a pond plant, you'll still have to cover the tank or your puffer will jump out, so that means lowering the water level. Doable on a larger tank, I suppose... I'd keep at least Jungle Parasite Clear & Melafix on hand. Tell me exactly how I should go about using those medic...

Re: Had an idea today
Literally all filter feeders will pull that stuff, its not like filter feeders choose what come to them. All filter feeders are notorious for building up stuff like that, zebra mussels live much shorter lives, and therefore should have less potential for bio accumulation should be less. I don't know.
