Re: Porcupine Puffer Lighting
If you're not keeping corals it doesn't make much difference on the lights, you could go with NO lights without corals. Nice light set up though

Re: New Amazon Puffers
I don't believe Amazon puffers bury themselves like other puffers. Mine don't at any rate. In fact I don't think mine hardly ever slow down. They are constantly busy looking for their next meal.
PS........I used to keep goldfish. I love the ranchus. They are one of my favorite fish.

I'm not Pufferpunk, nor do I have her vast knowledge, but I think she'll tell you it's because puffers are a scaleless fish and quite sensitive to medications.

Re: Calling All SAP Owners!
Not to get into an argument, but wanted to add my .02 for what it's worth. I just picked up 4 SAPS and they are all green and black. Personally I'd enjoy it if they did turn yellow and black. That would be cool

Re: HUGE Apology!
I've actually done that, but thankfully it was on my discus tank and they weren't phased one bit, but I sure did get hysterical! Don't beat yourself up, things happen, you grieve and hopefully move on. You're a fantastic resource and more than know your stuff.

Re: Thinking about getting puffer fish
Aquaclear is my favorite HOB filter for smaller tanks and yes, you can use sand. Pool filter sand is great for FW tanks.

Re: They're like pringles!!!!
If you by any chance find an abei let me know. We get most everything here and I haven't been able to find one for love nor money. I've never seen one for sale online either.

Re: Thinking about getting puffer fish
You can do it for MUCH less expensive than that. You can find a 10g for $10 or under or if you wanted to go with 3 puffers a 20g wouldn't be that much more. If you go to Craiglist you can get used filters and tanks or even a decent filter from Petsmart won't cost you more than $30. Not sure where yo...

Re: They're like pringles!!!!
Congos are relatively easy to find here in Houston depending on the time of year, but I think finding a red one will definitely present a challenge for you. Good luck on your search!

Re: Fahaka puffer tank size
Just my .02 but 40g is a ridiculously small tank for a fahaka long term. Chances are good that it has and will shorten their life span and stunt their growth.

Re: Frustrated with Congo Situation
You could also maybe find someone in your local fish club that would be interested in taking one of them if you're unable to get another tank.

Apparently puffers can play dead too
Tonight I was feeding Zoe a small piece of defrosted shrimp. I use extra long "tweezers" to put the food in the tank. She's only about 2" inches right now and I've only had her since Friday. I put the food by her and normally she goes right for it. Well she just lays there and I can't...

Vinegar is always my first choice, but the bleach solution is my second choice.
