Snails stuck in transit!

I ordered some more tiger nerite snails online to go with Schnell, my resident snail. Only thing is that the Mrs decided to pop out when the kind postman tried to deliver them. Consequently they have been taken to the local depot. Normally this would be no problem but I am away this weekend and won'...

There have been a couple of posts on this lately. If I find them I'll post them. I remember a lot of people commenting that CO2 is pretty useless in a tank, especially if there is a lot of surface agitation as the CO2 will simply disappear. Another post mentioned that F8s in the wild are found in fr...

I'm not sure, sounds a bit too high to me. It isn't really likely that you'll be able to get rid of a vast amount of algae with snails. You have to remember that you will increase the bio-load by putting snails in the tank, this will contribute to algae growth. Introducing a 2-hour period in the mid...

Should I supplement his food with cucumber, lettuce etc. or will the algae suffice?

I don't acclimate the snails that go into the tank for feeding the F8s - I figure they aren't going to stay around long enough to worry. But the nerite is quite an interesting looking chap and I want him to do well. The F8s know he's a snail but I don't think they can believe how big he is - it's qu...

I'm not sure your arguments on wild F8s are at all valid. An aquarium-kept fish is totally different specimen. It is never possible to fully replicate a wild environment in such a small space so all we try to do is the best for the fish. Many people on this site alone have vast experience of keeping...

The Fisherman wrote:Did you acclimate the snail to the (I'm assuming the snail came from a different salinity) new salinity? If so, how long?
Yes, I acclimated him. He's now fine by the way. Guess he was just shy! He's now roaming around as fast as his "legs" will carry him!

Yeah, I was a bit sceptical but it's such an easy thing to do that I thought I would give it a try. It apparently interrupts the algae's growth cycle enough to slow it down.

I've moved him from the sand onto a bit of bogwood and he has moved. Seems much happier now!

I hope they don't have an aversion to sand!

2 Hour Siesta

Until a week ago the algae in my brackish F8 tank was very fast growing. In a matter of a week algae would almost cover the tall plastic with long strands extending into the tank. Very unsightly! I then read something about using a two hour siesta period whereby the lights are turned off for 2 hours...
