I'm so sorry. That is really sad. :( You did what you could, and maybe others learned something from it. I've never seen or heard of the skin turning that color.

Re: Pre-killed snails?

I don't get the impression anyone is suggesting cooking the snail. I sometimes fed mine frozen snails (thawed of course) and he didn't know the difference (yes, he told me he couldn't tell :D ) But if you're feeling squimish about feeding them live, it's probably just as "cruel" to be froz...

Re: need help deciding on brackish or fw

My lfs says his gsp are bred in captivity in fw. Ive read that gsp thrives in brackish. He tells me a tsp of aquarium salt per 2 gallons added to my established tank is sufficient for my gsp to live a long healthy life and brackish is not necessary. My question is if this is true or would brackish ...

Re: Puffers in Hard Water

mkeaton wrote:JRC3, what KH am I going for, when I tested, that aspect wasn't as high as the hardness, but it was still up there. Where is the safest level for puffers? Thanks guys!

KH of 200-400ppm would be in the ideal range for brackish water puffers.

Re: Odd GSP activity, Unsure of Diagnosis

I'd stay away from any freeze dried food. Are the snails you provide for him no bigger than his eye? Are you feeding raw shrimp/scallops? It's strange he won't eat snails, IMO. Get your nitrates down with a large water change. Putting him in a full marine tank is a good idea, but don't do it quickly...

Re: Info on the Green Spotted Puffer

"I called the store that sold them yesterday to tell them they are selling gsps as dwarf puffs and they told me that I was lying. So today I put a call into the Better Business Bureau, the Michigan Humane Society and the ASPCA to let them know what this store is doing. It is extremely cruel to ...

Re: Info on the Green Spotted Puffer

I only skimmed this, because I don't have much time. Don't mess with your alkalinity, by using chemicals, at least not now. If you use argonite (crushed coral) type substrate that will raise it, but again, don't do any changes too fast. Your ALK is just fine. If your puffers have bright green heads ...

Re: Info on the Green Spotted Puffer

Wow, wow, wow! So sad this happens, but the puffers are lucky you are willing to commit to them. They are all wild caught, so they little dudes deserve the best care. You don't need to rush to full marine, they are fine for awhile. A 10 gallon if you watch your water parameters, and do water changes...

Re: gsp in full marine

I had a GSP in full marine with mushrooms, button polyps, and a green trumpet and he didn't bother any of them. But, I placed him, because I got completed addicted to corals, wanted more and didn't want to take any chances. I placed him with a guy who wanted one, had a reef set up, but was willing t...

Re: My reef tank

Tank is a 75 gallon with a 15 gal refugium. I assume pods continue to breed and there should be a good food source. Over time, I'll always order more, but I don't think I need to yet. My anenome expanded so big today. I hope that is normal. Here's a shot. You can't tell by the picture, but his tenta...

Re: My reef tank

Not that I've ever seen. I started out when I got him with lots of pods, even had mysis shrimp in my sump, and presuming also in the tank, but just to be safe after about a month of keeping him I ordered from Reefs2Go, 500 mixed pods. He is always hunting on rocks, and I'm pretty sure he only eats l...

Re: My reef tank

This tank has been stable for a bit over 6 months now. It's doing very well, so I feel lucky. All fish and corals are really thriving. I know I'm taking some risk with the RBTA, but he's still in the same spot this morning, and appears happy :) I even have a Mandarin Dragonette, that is doing very w...
