New Figure 8 Just Died :(

ph = 8 ammonia = 0 nitrite = 0 nitrate = < 0.25 sg = 1.003 (was going to bump it up to 1.004 at the next water change). 3 year old tank that used to house other fishes (that either moved to other tanks or died), fully cycled 15g Figure 8 all by himself First couple of days, fed him pond snails that ...

Re: Figure Eight Puffer going Blind !?!

I have Bumblebee Gobies and Ramshorn snails in that tank so I should be fine to help with the bacteria. :) This tank started with dry ferts, so I want to see how it does without any dry ferts and if it seems to need a little, use 1/4 my current dosage and see how it goes. I'm not in a rush to put in...

Re: Figure Eight Puffer going Blind !?!

The plants that I have in this tank would (or at least can) survive brackish water. But yes, I agree on the ferts. The puffer passed the following morning of my original post unfortunately. For two weeks, I'm going to skip ferts for this tank, and 2 water changes per week. Test the water for nitrate...

What kind of snails are these?

What kind of snails are these?

Are these Malaysian Trumpet Snails?

The picture doesn't show it, but they have a coloring of yellow and black, and looks similar to an Assassin Snail that I put in the tank to help with this.

Breeding Ramshorn...

I would like to start breeding Ramshorn snails to feed a Figure Eight Puffer. Day 1 Bought a Tetra Aquarium Cube Tank (1.5 Gallons), leaving it bare bottom. Added the supplied air pump powered filter. Added ~30 Ramshorn snails (the seller included a lot of extras). Feeding them algae wafers and fish...

Re: Bumblebee Gobies Cave Size ?

That looks amazing! I think i'll have to make one of those! I know Lowes will have everything that i'll need to do that. Just gotta make sure i wash/rinse the slate tiles really well before using the silicone and putting them into the tank. How many tiles did it take you to make that one? (rough gu...

I'm close to Norwalk, CA

If you are close enough, I can just give you some of the tiles and you can make your own. It's just stacking and gluing it together.

Re: Bumblebee Gobies Cave Size ?

What are you using as an adhesive, or what would be safe to use? Looks like something easy and cheap to do. Aquarium safe clear 100% Silicone. Tube cost about $10, really cheap caulk gun was $2-$3. The slate tiles were $7-$8 for 5 or 6 slate tiles. I think I could've made 1 more big one, and 1 medi...

Re: Instant Ocean Sea Salt - Confused

Adding 1 cup of Instant Ocean to 17.5 Gallons raised it up to 1.003-1.004 last night. I'm going to wait 24 hours and check it again to make sure it mixed completely. I'll add 14-15 gallons of this 1.004 to 14-15 gallons of 1.000 and end up with 28-30 gallons of 1.002. (need to account for substrate ...

Re: Instant Ocean Sea Salt - Confused

secondly, you need to learn to read. 1.5 POUNDS (thats what lbs means) of salt will raise the specific gravity of 5 gallons of fresh water to 1.022, not 1.5 gallons of salt... Wow... a little harsh and angry. 1.5 Pounds of Salt Raises 5 Gallons to 1.022 4.5 Pounds of Salt Raises 15 Gallons to 1.022...

Re: Instant Ocean Sea Salt - Confused

I have a refractometer. :) I have a 15 gallon "bucket" full of water with Prime added. A powerhead to mix it, and a heater. When you saw, slowly add salt... does that mean, add 1 teaspoon? 1 cup? I could add 1 teaspoon, wait a little bit, measure the salinity, but it would take a while if ...
