Re: Giant Fahaka Puffer entering adulthood
Aren´t earthworms the same? I googled lobworms and they look the same as the worms I buy at my local sports fishing store. In the summer they are abundant in the wild.Arrow2013 wrote:Hey I know you think earthworms are his fav but get some giant lobworms now that's his fav food lol

Re: Giant Fahaka Puffer entering adulthood
The feeding schedule depends on the puffer as they are not all the same: - activity level and digestion - how quickly the belly bulge evens out before the next meal (be careful not fattening its lever etc.) It also depends on how efficient your filtration system is, how often you change the water an...

Giant Fahaka Puffer entering adulthood
It´s almost one and a half year I brought a tiny fahaka home and Freddy is now about 35 cm (including his tail) Here is an update: Constant begging (you can see his akward look after chipping his upper left tooth) FSwPA9KaoIo Toothgrinding as a hobby (he loves crushing just about anything. He won´t ...

Re: fahakas tail
Meanwhile I think large freshwater puffers can be classified as slow moving swimmers and not using their caudal fin to the same extent as other species, I still think the caudal fin of my Fahaka is absolutely essential for faster movement. I think it also depend on the environment. If you clip the w...

Re: fahakas tail
The largish puffers in FW don't get much chance to use their caudal fins in captivity unless they are in massive tanks with some strong currents - a 200 gallon tank is large but far from massive. Renber that puffers are not ordinary fish, their swimming techniques are quite unlike other fish, as th...

When I filled mine all the way my fahaka managed to spill water out of the tank by building waves. If the lid is water proof all the way it won't be a problem.

Re: Need advise on setting up my puffer tank
I would have focused my efforts on building a nice looking cave able to house a fully grown Fahaka. I used a lightweight flat stone glued onto to a transparent cake bowl, which I reshaped into a two way channel. My fahaka can pass through it with ease and hide most of his body when resting. He also ...

Re: Rip fatboy :-(
Sorry for your loss but congrats for raising a large healthy fahaka until now. There is no need to understand the science behind nature all the time when there are so many uncontrollable factors. Have fun with it and good luck with your next guy.

Awful treatment of Fahakas
One larger Fahaka dominating two other Fahakas. One of them lacking an eye. The other with a deformed mouth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QbAsW5Pdv8&feature=youtube_gdata_player And here's a video showing the same tank except the miserable Fahakas are replaced by a larger MBU http://www.youtu...
