Re: Help! Getting my first puffers need advice!
Try bladder snails, the breed insanely fast and don't have a overly thick shell like equally prolific mylasian trumpet snails. setting up a 2.5g tank for the snails to breed (yes they need a tank/ good filtration too) is ideal. But its good to have bloodworms/krill on hand because while its ideal to...

Re: What is healthy Fahaka behavior?
Yeah i moved the GF out, and i can't stress enough that they were just there to eat duckweed and they had been treated for disease before they became residents. To be honest i don't care about his tank-mates they are just a clean-up and algae control crew. I am sure he will kill them sometime in the...

Re: What is healthy Fahaka behavior?
He killed 1 of 12 tank mates in the month he has been in. The tank-mate that died was slightly territorial and kinda had it coming. the 3 Siamese algae eaters, 7 Odessa barbs and 2 goldfish* stay away and he leaves them alone, seems to me the dense plants help. (*The goldfish have since been moved o...

Re: Metricide 14: safe or not?
So far i have continued dosing 6-7tsp for my 120g. All is well! plants are exploding, some more than others but its awesome. puffer is doing awesome almost seems like he is happier and more active lol. I'm not going to say its completely safe but seems to be so far. I will update in a few more weeks...

Re: Metricide 14: safe or not?
i'm dosing 30ml metricide for my 120gal, i think excel it recommends 60ml excel for that size if its after a water change. I am going to maintain this dose, i have a ridiculous amount of plants already, and i have a annoying green spot algae problem.

Re: Metricide 14: safe or not?
well i wouldn't say a "deal" but not awful, spent 37usd shipped from dealmed dot com. I dosed my tank, puffer is acting totally normal, i will do a dose everyday and report if i have any issues. input still welcomed and appreciated if anybody has any experiences with metricide 14 in a puff...

Re: Building up my first FW tank
If you like the idea of driftwood but cannot deal with the tanins why don't you just shellac it? I don't know the specifics but i have heard of people doing this in fw/bw tanks with no issues. just some food for thought.

Re: Metricide 14: safe or not?
yes, its also to help with algae but that is simply a desired side effect. I would dose excel but 120g can get expensive to dose fast. Just seems a waste if i have 216w t5-ho and am not using some sort of c02 supplementation.

Metricide 14: safe or not?
Is metricide 14 safe to use in a tank with a puffer if it is dosed in the same amount as excel? (adjusting for the different concentrations of course)

Re: What is healthy Fahaka behavior?
Thanks for all the input, my fahaka is starting to relax and behave more like before. He is certainly less aggressive now, but as i recall it was about 3 weeks before he really acted like he was ruler of his domain in the store tank. So i am sure some cohabitants will disappear in the near future lo...

What is healthy Fahaka behavior?
So i work at my LFS and we had a fahaka 7-8" there for a few months and i picked him up. He was kept in one of the stores 75g tanks, he was very active and extremely aggressive as well as very hungry all the time (and eating huge amounts). Well i moved him to my 120g planted tank at home, and n...

Re: Fahaka not growing
yes, i do once a week 10-20% water change, i also run a uv sterilizer to keep things extra clean. I soaked his food in that stuff everyday for 3 days in addition to dosing the tank. He doesn't look skinny at all. he is very rounded and full bodied, eats to the point of being super bulgy at least 2 t...

Fahaka not growing
My fahaka won't grow or at least is growing around 10x slower than the rest of the lot he came with. To start i do know how fast he has grown in comparison to the others that he came to the store with (the store i work at). A friend of mine bought one and so did I. His is now 8-9" 8 months afte...

Fahaka hardly growing
So, i have a 120gal 2'x2'x4' planted tank, sand bottom. I feed my fahaka; guppies and goldfish as well as krill and snails. (the feeders are put in quarantine for 2 weeks prior to being fed). He seems very happy and energetic but he hasn't grown more than a half inch in 4 months. My friend and i bou...
