Re: building a new tank... in need of help
Use vinegar for cleaning the drum out. You could also use bleach diluted in water, if you want, just rinse super well. Oxiclean works too, again, just rinse very well.

Re: Nitrate levels
Just always keep the nitrate below 20 and you're fine. To get him to eat new foods, just starve him for a couple of days (he won't die), then introduce the new food. It sometimes takes tough love to get puffers to like new stuff.

Re: New GSP
I would just do it right away. So far, no one has seen negative effects of putting small GSPs into full marine, when properly cared for. Get an API liquid testing kit. Far more accurate than strips. Just read the directions and do it properly. Shake the nitrate bottles like crazy, and wait 30 second...

Re: New GSP
Ammonia is highly toxic to fish, and especially puffers. Do larger water changes every day. Go for like 50%, it won't affect the cycle at all. Test strips aren't accurate, at all. So, you probably have even higher ammonia than you realize. When you get the new tank, I'd highly recommend going full m...

Re: New GSP
Puffers are perfectly fine alone, I don't recommend the tank mate. Get the other fish out of there as soon as you can because they're likely to become food and live fish really aren't healthy for other fish, leads to fatty liver disease and other diseases. Also, since it's a 40 gallon tank, the tank...

Re: HELP PLEASE! Puffer dying
You need to be doing lots of large waterchanges but be sure your sg doesn't fluctuate too much or you will open yourself right up for new problems. I would bet money that this is a water quality issue. They currently don't have SG. They were having SOME reading from what I read in the original post...

Re: HELP PLEASE! Puffer dying
I read your original post on fishlore, but may have missed the information; how big is the tank?

Could be. How big is the puffer? How long have you had it for?purplecandle wrote:Try feeding daily. This may be a nutritional issue...I hope it is...much easier to fix nutritional issues than ips.

Re: Do we have any brony's here?
All three of my younger siblings, two girls, one boy, like MLP. The girls are twins and are five, the boy is fourteen, and he even has a few friends his age who like MLP, as well. My mother's fiance also likes MLP. So that's 4/6 people in my house who really enjoy it. I've seen it, and it's definite...

Re: Skinny puffer, weird belly
Definitely make sure any foods that come from a super market or anywhere like that are frozen for a full 24-48 hours to ensure everything is dead. Also. quarantine anything live that you feed for 2-4 weeks before feeding it. When feeding the shell on shrimp, make sure it's also non-seasoned and ever...
Re: Poorly DP
As asked already, how long have you had the DP? Does she have anything else wrong with her? Sunken belly? Has she pooped recently? How often are you feeding? Do you feed just blood worms and brine shrimp?

Re: Poor sighted Valentini puffer
I will let someone else answer the question about the teeth trimming, because I'm not positive for saltwater puffers.
Anyway, the depth perception thing seems odd. How are your water parameters?

I'm gonna guess immunity to that specific treatment, then. I think switching the treatment will solve the issue. As asked already, what specific foods is he getting?
