Re: RO/DI for brackish?

My tap is at about 200 TDS so its not horrible but not great either and has always given me algae issues. Given that brackish has no real CUC(least nothing that the puffer wont eat!) other then me with a scrubber seems like it would be best to be able to control what is in my water. I already had th...

Re: RO/DI for brackish?

I went ahead and replaced the rocks with aragonite and am letting the storm settle. It is about done so I can add the decor back. I picked up the equilibrium and dosed it so hopefully this will stabilize the system and I can move my figure 8 over this weekend.

Re: RO/DI for brackish?

The KH needs to be higher than that for stability of the tank. Are you using an aragonite substrate? That would help stability. I am not just some gravel. The KH in my figure 8s current tank is 8 using tapwater so i'm assuming the ro/di is what is lowering it. Would argonite keep me from having to ...

Re: RO/DI for brackish?

Was afraid of that would something like Seachem's Equilibrium work? I'd rather not mix tap and ro if I can avoid it(I hate algae!). I checked the ph and it is ok at around 7.8 but my kh is low at only 3.

RO/DI for brackish?

Hello is RO/DI safe to use at lower end brackish(around 1.05)? I have the unit for my saltwater tank and would love to drop tap to help with algae but i'm not sure if I need to add anymore minerals besides whats in the salt to the water.

Re: Figure 8 tank mates?

I think I'm going to give the Knight Gobies a shot. Should I do a pair or a trio in the 36 gallon?

Figure 8 tank mates?

I will be moving my figure 8 to a 36 gallon soon and am looking for opinions on what else could go in there with him. Would another figure 8 be ok or would they be to aggressive towards each other? Maybe a knight goby? I could leave him solo but the tank would look pretty empty!

Re: My first puffer!

Thanks for the info on the snails. I might look into the BBGs how many would be happy in a 20 gallon with the F8? It would be nice to have something help with the mess she leaves behind. I have been vacuuming with the weekly water change but I know I can't get it all. And ya she is pretty small a li...

Re: My first puffer!

Just a quick update and a question. Daisy is still doing great and my wife and daughter are absolutely in love with her. I have never had a fish with soo much personality. She always greets us when we come home and loves to eat from my hand(well finger). From the advice the krill has been turned int...

Re: My first puffer!

I would avoid freeze dried krill entirely. Bloodworms are probably okay as a supplement, but really she needs something with a shell on it. Look for some frozen mysis shrimp at your LFS, she'll love it. Try not to Feed too much krill, has been linked to lockjaw. Nice puffer I had read about that th...

I had read about that they are ok on occasion though right? On the subject of feeding I know puffers beg constantly for food but how often should they be fed? Once a day? Bloodworms are ok for daily feeding right?

Re: My first puffer!

She is still doing great. Gave her a piece of krill and she was nearly doing back flips in the tank. She also promptly destroyed a snail in there.

My first puffer!

Been wanting a figure 8 for awhile and finally decided a few weeks ago to surprise my wife with one for mother's day(she adores puffers)! I picked her up today and my 3 year old named her Daisy. She is happily swimming around a 20 gallon tank with a SG of 1.06. I managed to get her to hold still for...

Re: FW conversion with a Fig8

After some googleing pond snails are what I am talking about although MTS are quite interesting looking! I set up the 10 gal snail tank last night(had a spare tank in a closet) and am cycleing it now with some filter material from an established tank so it should be ready to go in about a week.

Re: FW conversion with a Fig8

Thanks for the tip on watersprite I'll look into it. I was planning on using a 10 gallon for the snails that may also get some rummynose tetra tank mates that may need to be rehomed. I'm not sure of the name of the snails but I was going to use the pests that tend to hitch hike with plants and breed...
